Nigeria forward Ahmed Musa has said the armed robbery that left his mother injured and his valuables carted away from his residence in the northern city of Jos will not affect his game on Saturday, when Nigeria will host Malawi in a crucial 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Some 11 armed robbers invaded Musa’s residence on Wednesday night, beat up his mother and escaped with some valuables.
The online Premium Times newspaper Thursday quoted Musa, who is in camp in the southern city of Calabar, venue of the match, as saying he suspected the robbers were kidnappers.
‘When they entered, the men started searching everywhere for my wife and son who had travelled earlier to (northern city of) Kano. When their search turned up empty, they hurt my mother and stole some valuables,” said the CSKA Moscow player.
He said his mother was taken to hospital for treatment, adding that she had since returned home.
PANA reports that Musa, 20, is a key player in the Nigerian Super Eagles, the group F leader (9 points) who must avoid losing their match against Malawi if they are to advance from their group to the third and final round of the African qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
For its part, Malawi, second in the group on 7 points, needs a win to advance.
