Africa's biggest U17 tournament a success

Africa’s biggest U17 tournament has again been a major success so far. For the last week the city of Lagos has been held spellbound as teams from across Africa traded tackles and displayed the scintillating football artistry for which the continent is known.
Eko as it affectionately known, is hosting teams from Niger, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Congo DRC, Madagascar and Gabon in this year’s Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) African championship scheduled to hold from September 16 to 23.

Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi and his counterpart in the Women Affairs Ministry, Hajia Zainab Maina opened the games which also saw in attendance Governor Babatude Fashola. Emeka Oparah Director for Communication for Airtel was all smiles sharing with supersport.com “We are again thrilled to be part of this fantastic event that continues to show Airtel’s commitment in not only discovering our best talent, but helping develop them as well”.

The games will be spread out and unfold at the Agege Township Stadium, Agege, Onikan Stadium, National Institute of Sports (NIS) Pitch and the Legacy Pitch both in the National Stadium, Surulere. Niger Republic holds the 2012 championship title for the male category, while Ghana is the defending champion in the female category.
