A superbly directed 94th minute corner from Frank Loning was powerfully nodded home by Nicky Adler, who had begun his run from the edge of the penalty area, to seal a one-nil win for Seyi Olajengbesi's Sandhausen against VFL Bochum at the Hardtwaldstadion on Sunday.
A crowd of 7276 created a suitably passionate atmosphere and Sandhausen had the better of the early exchanges.
Olajengbesi and his fellow Sandhausen defenders remained on top of affairs as their alertness and great defensive abilities restricted the visitors.
Bochum were largely restricted to long-range first-half efforts, the closest of which was a Tasaka Tasaka effort swerving narrowly wide.
