Pedro speaks on some issues in the national side

Pedro Rodriguez has commented on reuniting with David Villa, Spain’s goalkeeper quandary and the requirement of beating Finland this week.

La Roja were held to a 1-1 draw in Gijon in World Cup qualifying Group I’s reverse fixture with Finland and, according to their forward, are intent on picking up three points this Friday in Helsinki.

“We have to win, it’s an important game,” Pedro commented to reporters after training today.

“They are not going to make things easy and it will cost us a lot, as it did in the reverse fixture.

“We are just thinking of winning and being faithful to our style, which is what has provided us with success.

“Personally? I’m working, there is much competition at both my club and with the national team because they are the best in the world, but in both squads I am trying hard and time will tell if I can be here.”

Pedro is reunited on national duty with former Barcelona teammate David Villa.

“I miss Villa on the day to day, he is a dear person. But we have the good fortune to meet here and laugh and have fun.

“He is a reference, we would have liked him to stay at Barca, but at least we can be back together with the national team.”

The Barcelona man was also asked of the continuing debate over the goalkeeping position with the national team, due to Iker Casillas’ situation at club level.

“The three goalkeepers are training very well, we know that Iker is not going through a good moment with his club, but no-one doubts his professionalism.

“[Victor] Valdes is also at a high level. As is [Pepe] Reina. All three are ‘keepers with guarantees.”
