Kogi United.......................is the era over?

The 2-2 scoreline Kogi United recorded in the clash against promoted FC Taraba condemned them crestfallen to the drop. The one-all draw they recorded at home to Spotlight FC was only a mere formality. It thus ended their two-year stay in the Nigeria National League and a reunion with their brothers Lokoja FC.

Sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom before you realise it has got to change, the club's fall started when they were beaten 3-2 by Adamawa United in a week 4 clash at the Confluence Stadium.
There were reports of civil war in the dressing room, political supremacy and some other issues.
The handwriting was already on the wall before a league clash against FC Abuja.
Reports revealed that the second NNL highest goal scorer and midfielder, Tony Wilson with six goals including three from free kick spots was not among the players that left the Kogi State Capital, Lokoja on Saturday morning for Abuja.
A source suggests that the drop of Wilson was not far fetch as he has not been in the good books of the Team Manager, Mr Sulieman Ahmed, as the place in the club was only preserved due to limited options.
There were allegations that the TM manipulated under pressure Coach Baba Anini Musa to drop the duo in wake of testing some newly recruited forwards against FC Abuja.
However, the neglect of Martins who was the team's hero in the club's 1-1 draw at Abuja against Teap FC was uncertain, though another source claimed it was due to his failure to impress in the game against Plateau United.
The team prosecuted the game without two of their influencial players and lost to the also relegated Abuja side.
The squad should have performed far better over the season and avoided being in the desperate situation the club now finds itself in.
The future of Kogi United is now one of many issues to be decided by their under-fire manager Mr Sulieman Ahmed and the state number one citizen Captain Ibrahim Wada as they prepare for the grim transition to the Nigeria Nationwide League or maybe buy a slot to remain in the Nigeria National League, while huge changes are expected in the squad and possibly behind the scenes with jobs on the line.
