Kanu sure Eagles will qualify for 2014 World Cup

Former Super Eagles skipper Kanu Nwankwo has optimistically declared that the flag of Nigeria will be hoisted in Brazil as one of the participating teams when the 2014 FIFA senior World Cup kicks off.

Kanu, who was in Calabar alongside other former internationals to cheer the Eagles to victory over their Malawian counterparts, said that as African champions, he believed that the Coach Stephen Keshi-tutored side would scale the last hurdle ahead of them to make it to Brazil.
“The players are hungry to be in Brazil and that is very good, I don’t see any team stopping us after going this far; we have a team that can beat any team in Africa. Don’t forget we are the champions of the continent so I don’t have any fear in me, I know Nigeria will qualify for the World Cup,” said Kanu, who is the second most capped Nigerian player.
Having defeated Malawi 2-0 over the weekend and finishing top of Group F with 12 points, Nigeria joins 9 other countries in the final play-off for the African qualifiers for the World Cup from where the five teams to represent the continent will emerge.
Ivory Coast, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, and Senegal are the teams still standing in Africa and will be paired against each other in draws to be conducted by the Confederation for African Football (CAF) on September 18, 2013.
The first legs of matches between these countries will be played between October 11-15, while the second & decisive legs will take place between November 15-19, 2013.
