Cruyff: I won’t attend Barca-Ajax

Johan Cruyff has explained why he won’t be setting foot in the Camp Nou anytime soon and why he wants Ajax to beat Barcelona.

The Dutch legend sees his two most notable former clubs preparing for a first ever competitive meeting next midweek, when the Catalans play host in their Champions League group stage opener.

However, Cruyff, who has picked his side for the match, says he will not be there in person due to a continuing poor relationship with Sandro Rosell.

In coming into power at Barcelona in 2010, Rosell removed Cruyff from his position of honorary President at the club.

“I will support Ajax,” commented the 66-year-old in conversation this week with RTL.

“I’ve also had some differences with the President of Barcelona.

“I will not put one foot in the Camp Nou while he is there, so I will not attend Barcelona-Ajax.
“I also hope that Ajax win this game.”

Despite backing Ajax, Cruyff did not have kind words for their current Coach and former Barcelona defender Frank de Boer.

“Just because you have a driver’s licence does not mean that you are qualified to drive a Formula 1 car.”
