Obagoal Bags MLS Goal Of The Season Award

Obafemi Martins’s stunning strike against San Jose Earthquakes has been voted the 2014 AT&T MLS Goal of the Year.

The former Nigeria international polled more than 50 percent of the votes cast, beating off competition from Portland Timbers midfielder Will Johnson (28.23 %), ex Arsenal icon Thierry Henry (13.22%) and New England Revolution ace Lee Nguyen (6.73 %) .

The ex-Wolfsburg forward struck after 8 minutes to hand Seattle Sounders all three points in a week 11 tie at CenturyLink Field.

That strike was the most eye catching out of the 64 goals that were selected by MLS staff and voted on by fans.

Obagoal as he is known by admirers missed out on the MLS MVP award to LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane.
