Sodje: Sammy Is Not Ready For Eagles Challenge

Former Super Eagles defender Efetobore Sodje has stated that Newcastle United youngster, Sammy Ameobi is not ready for a crack in the colours of the Nigeria senior national side.

The younger brother of Shola Ameobi is still pondering on whether to yet to commit his international future to Nigeria.

Sodje believes the tricky winger is still learning and not ripe enough for the African Champions.

“He’s part of the team Newcastle United, but I don’t think he’s ready to take up a regular place in the first eleven.”

“He has done well on the few occasions he has been in the starting line up but he’s not in the top 10 of best Nigerian players right now because he's yet to convince,” Sodje said.

Sammy burst on to the first-team scene at the end of the 2010/11 season, making his Newcastle United debut as a second-half substitute in the penultimate game of the season at Chelsea.

The youngster replaced Peter Lovenkrands to join older brother Shola on the Stamford Bridge pitch, and in doing so they became the first brothers to play for Newcastle United in a league match since George and Ted Robledo in 1952.

He appeared twice for Nigeria Under 20s in friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as the squad prepared for the 2011 African Youth Championship.
