We are expectant- Rivers Angels manager Matilda Otuene

Victorious Nigerian Women Federation Cup champions, Rivers Angels have arrived in Port Harcourt and are now waiting for the largesse promised by the Rivers State government.

Rivers Angels won the Cup on Sunday, beating Nasarawa Amazons 3-0 in the final and now believe something good will come their way from their state governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

“We are really expectant,” Team Manager, Matilda Otuene affirmed.

“Last year, we got cars after winning the Federation Cup and even though we have heard what seems like promises, I am looking beyond the cars we might get this year.

“We really do not have a team bus and have been hiring buses for so long now. I hope the governor will just give us a bus,” Otuene said.

Before their departure to Lagos, Rivers State sports commissioner, Fred Igwe, in a press statement, urged the girls to win, saying the state governor had set a precedent on how he honours winning teams in the state.

Permanent Secretary at the Rivers State sports ministry, Comfort Wihioka also reiterated that the girls need not be bothered if they win, as the governor will surely reward them.

“In the past, the governor has been rewarding all those that brought laurels to the state and the case won’t be different with Rivers Angels. They know the governor and what he can do so let them not be worried,” Wihioka said.
