Sasaki praises his team, expects Super Falcons to come back stronger

After testing some new combinations with new and less-experienced players, Nadeshiko Japan coach Sasaki Norio praised his team for their 2-0 win over Nigeria in Isahaya, Nagasaki Prefecture, on Sunday in the first game of a two-game friendly series.

Forward Ogimi Yuki of Chelsea scored in the 36th minute and midfielder Kawasumi Nahomi of INAC Kobe struck in the 53rd minute, while Japan’s new-look backline keeping a clean sheet.

Sasaki said, “I know we still have to work on some things to improve our game, but every player showed their characteristics as much as they could in today’s game as I tested some variations in how we play.”

The Nadeshiko squad had prepared for the game since Tuesday.

“We had a short period of time to work together in preparation, but our players made good efforts such as holding meetings among themselves,” he said.

However, the Japan boss said Nigeria would likely be in better condition in Thursday night’s game at Fukuda Denshi Arena in Chiba.

“Nigeria had a long journey and seemed to lose their physical condition in the second half. They didn’t show what they are capable of today. I am expecting a more spectacular game next time,” Sasaki said.
