He may have mesmerised the world with his artistry in Barcelona colours, but Lionel Messi's ultimate dream is to win the World Cup for his nation next year in Brazil.
Argentina beat Paraguay 5-2 on Tuesday to book their place in the 2014 showpiece event, and Messi wants to emulate the legendary Diego Maradona to help his nation bag its first World Cup since 1986.
"I dream of winning the World Cup, we all do in Argentina. But there is still a long way to go," Messi said while talking to reports following the big away win against Paraguay.
"We got what we wanted, but it was difficult to play here. The most important thing was to qualify as soon as possible.
We want to continue like this and we want to keep winning," Messi said.
There have been rumours that Barca have asked the Argentine football association to keep Messi out of their squad for the last two World Cup qualifiers, but Messi refuted that saying,
"I don't know anything about that. I always want to play for Argentina."
