1 GAME launches 1 Book, 1 Pen Campaign

1 GAME on Monday launched the 1 Book, 1 Pen Campaign aimed at addressing some of the challenges vulnerable children face while in school, particularly as it has to do with affording a book and a pen.

Speaking during the event which took place at Chocolat Royale, Victoria Island, Lagos and attended by civil societies, media executives and journalists , 1 GAME founder Philip Obaji emphasized the significance of empowering the Nigerian child through qualitative education.
“We are going to knock on doors throughout the country and solicit 1 book, 1 pen for Nigerian children; many of whom will resort to violence because of ignorance resulting from lack of education.
“It’s a huge concern for me and for all of us at 1 GAME. But I promise you that as long as I run the 1 GAME campaign, I’ll wake up every morning fighting for our children, as hard as I know how to.”
Furthermore, he restated his gratitude to the Nigerian media for giving constant support to 1 GAME in the fight against violence and ignorance in the country.
“The Nigerian media has been awesome. They’ve led this fight. They’ve spoken out and have made our campaign very effective. But there’s still more to do, and I trust that they’ll continue to give their support wherever and whenever they can.”
Femi Obong-Daniels of Cool, Wazobia and Nigeria Info FM, who led discussions at the event, gave much support for the Nigerian children through the provision of Universal Basic Education (UBE).
“I’m particularly excited about this. For us at Cool, Wazobia and Nigeria Info FM, we will do the very best we can to promote and give meaning to the 1 Book, 1 Pen Campaign. We totally agree that every child in school,” he affirmed.
Coordinating Manager, World Entertainment TV Limited, Onimisi Adaba in his address, emphasized the need to make education more effective in disadvantaged areas by providing vulnerable children with the basic tools they need to attend school.
“We must understand the challenges many children face in school. For so many of them, it is the inability to cope with learning mainly due to a lack reading and writing tools. But with the 1 Book, 1 Pen initiative, a huge challenge I’m confident will be resolved,” he said.
1 GAME hopes to raise 30 million exercise books and pens for delivery to school children particularly those learning in the most impoverished and vulnerable areas.
Public donations will be received in all Cool, Wazobia and Nigeria Info FM stations in Abuja, Kano, Lagos and Port Harcourt; 1 GAME campaign offices in Calabar and Abuja; and all 36 State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) offices in Nigeria.
