Etisalat Nigeria survived a second half
scare from Samsung FC of Ghana to pip the hosts 4-3 and carted home the
Corporate Champions Cup in a thrilling encounter in Accra, Ghana on
Saturday.
Etisalat Nigeria shot into the lead in
the 10th minute through captain Andrew Enebeli. The euphoria of the
opener had barely died down when Kingsley Daniel out-jumped his marker
to head home a blinding header that beat the flailing Samsung Ghana FC
goalkeeper.
The second strike expectedly stunned the
host team the more and they struggled to come back into the game but
their opponents kept the game under control stringing passes and making
dashing and dangerous runs all around the field.
The Nigerian side continued to run rings
round their Ghanaian counterparts and it paid off as left back, Usman
Jamiu, struck the third goal for Etisalat Nigeria in the first half.
The Samsung Ghana team came back into the
game to pull back three goals in quick succession within first 12
minutes for the second half.
The hosts would have gone ahead but goalkeeper Nelson Okotie for Etisalat denied them each time.
The
visitors resorted to counter attacks and one such attacks paid off when
Ayokunle Ayeni popped up inside the box to slot in a cross from his
teammate Edore making it 4-3.
Etisalat had qualified to represent Nigeria having won the Nigeria Corporate Champions Cup organised by
Corporate Soccer Nigeria, which is an affiliate of International
Federation of Corporate Football.
