Glo Nigeria Premier League gets kickoff date

The 2013/14 Nigeria league season will kick off on February 23, the League Management Company has announced.

“We will commence the new season by the weekend of February 23-25,” announced chairman of the LMC, Nduka Irabor after a meeting with the 20 clubs in Abuja on Monday.

Last season ended in October, but the start of the new league campaign has been delayed by various vexed issues including a face-off between the LMC and the club managers.

Irabor also disclosed that the traditional a pre-season tournament, the Super 4, will be played between January 24 to 28.

“We hope this tournament will help prepare our teams who will feature in international competitions this year,” he said.

Champions Kano Pillars and Enyimba will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League, while Bayelsa United will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.

El Kanemi will be the fourth team for the Super 4 after they placed fourth last season.
