Giwa FC denies allegation levelled by Gombe United

The NPL week 13 clash between debutanta Giwa FC of Jos and Gombe United has already started right from the pre-match meeting.

SL10 was briefed about the event that took place in Jos by Gombe United spokesperson, Tanimu Umar.

In a way of balancing the story, sl10.ng also reached the camp of Giwa FC to get details from them too.

According to the briefing by Tanimu Umar around 12:10 pm on Sunday 18th of May 2014, the Savannah Scorpions expressed displeasure at the rowdy behaviour by the home team fans.

The statement reads: "Gombe United is displeased with the rowdy behaviour of Giwa FC fans during the pre-match meeting this morning in Jos.

"Even before we get into the field the fans were threatening to kill the centre referee should they not win the game.  Some of them were brandishing knives to back their threat. This is the height of hooliganism.  Only God will save Gombe United today should Giwa fail to win the match.

"We hope and pray the match commissioner, Lawan Kasim Fantua,  will report whatever he witness before, during and after the match. We also call on the League Management Company to increase security in match venues across the country."

When SL10 spoke to the assistant coach of Giwa FC, Sammy Adesoji (who also doubles as the Marketing director of the club) as regards event that took place during the pre-match meeting this morning in Jos, he said that there was calm during the meeting.

Though he said the fans, who were around maturely expressed their feelings on getting quality officiating later today when both sides meet.

"My brother, nothing happened at the pre-match meeting," Sammy said in a phone chat.

When SL10 asked about the threat from the home fans, Sammy replied; "No, the fans didn't threaten any body, what they asked for in a mature way was pleading for quality officiating today. We've been victim of poor officiating on the road lately,

"Our match in Akure against Sunshine and Sharks in Porthacourt were lost due to very obvious and poor officiating. I also want to note that one of the very best officiating I've seen so far is our (Giwa FC) match against Warri Wolves in Warri which we lost by two goals to nil,"Sammy said

"You can as well understand if the fans are pleading for quality officiating, which they did in a matured manner." Sammy concluded.
