The second edition of the Teslim Thunder
Balogun Under-15 soccer competition has begun at the Campos Mini
Stadium in Lagos. The competition is open to all junior teams in Lagos
State.
The organisers have invited clubs operating as junior teams or as football academies.
Speaking on his future plans for the
tournament, the founder of Teslim Balogun Foundation who is also a
director in Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Mr. Rasheed Balogun,
said that their expectation for the tournament is to see one or two
players in national U-17 team soon.
He said, “Our idea is to contribute our
quota in developing age-grade soccer in Nigeria. It is our firm belief
that in the nearest future the competition would have grown to such a
level that national coaches can successfully scout for talents and that
these talents eventually play for Nigeria in any of the age-grade
competitions.”
The 2014 tournament has featured fresh
talents mainly from the Lagos Island, Surulere, Apapa, Fadeyi and Somolu
areas. There are also teams from Oshodi, Agege, Ikeja, Ipaja, Egbeda
and Ketu.
The competition will end on June 21 at the Campos Square, Lagos.
