Panel reveals senior players snub

Mikel Obi and Vincent Enyeama snubbed a panel to probe a bonus row involving the Super Eagles after a World Cup qualifier in Namibia.

Chairman of the ministerial panel Segun Adeniyi made the revelation when he presented the findings of his panel to the Nigeria sports minister.

Adeniyi disclosed that all efforts to reach Israel-based goalkeeper Austin Ejide also proved abortive.

"We discussed with all the actors involved in the bonus row crisis, the technical crew, the leadership of the Nigeria Football federation, six home-based players and the team captain Joseph Yobo, who was not in Namibia but we understand was carried along by his team mates," he said.

"We tried to call Chelsea's John Obi Mikel, Vincent Enyeama and Austin Ejide, but we could not get them, so we sent them SMS and it was only Joseph Yobo who returned our call."

However, the former presidential spokesman noted that their snub of the panel did not affect their job.

"The refusal of the trio of Mikel, Vincent and Ejide did not affect the job of the panel because we already heard from all the parties involved,” he maintained.

The panel has made some far-reaching recommendations as regards the welfare of the national team.
