Ahead of their 2015 Nigeria Professional Football League opener against
Akwa United, Enyimba defender, Ugwu Uwadiegwu, has told SL10.ng that he
and his teammates are hoping to start their campaign on a high.
The Elephants host Akwa in week one of the 2015 NPFL in Aba, just a
week after securing their passage to the next round of the CAF Champions
League and Uwadiegwu says they hope to take their form on the continent
to the home front.
“We have started the season well in the Champions League and we want to
carry that form to the league,” he told sl10.ng. “We would also like to
start the season on a high in the league by beating Akwa United and
getting all the points.
“Akwa United are also a very good side and we cannot underrate them but
I hope we can be very good on that day so that we can get the result we
need.”
When asked the level of their preparedness for the league, Uwadiegwu
claims having already played two games on the continent; it has given
them some competitive edge over their weekend opponents.
“I think we are prepared because we have played two games in the
Champions League and that has put us in shape for the league, unlike our
opponents who have only played friendly games,” he stated.
