Bafana drew 1-1 with the Super Eagles on Sunday, with Musa scoring an 85th minute opener when he was allowed space to cut in and unleash a beautiful curling effort past Itumeleng Khune.
Bongani Zungu equalised in stoppage time to ensure a share of the spoils for Mashaba's men.
"I said to the players before the game, 'there's this Musa - number 7 - don't give him an area where he faces goals, because he will punish us'," says Mashaba.
"We had him in the first half and he was nowhere; we had him for some time in the second half.
"When he started playing, he always comes in from the flanks and he did it, he's a very, very good curler of the ball.
"You could see when his foot hit the ball that it was going to cause problems for the goalkeeper."
