Lifted by the morale boosting 2-1 win against Ethiopia, key players of
domestic Eagles Solomon Kwambe and Ugonna Uzochukwu have said the
warm-up against Ethiopia has given them an idea of what to expect
African Nations Championship to be hosted by South Africa.
Ugonna, a key player in the fold of Enugu Rangers and one of the goal scorers in the 2-1 win over Ethiopia told a top voice he was delighted to score in a game seen by many as a baptism of fire test for the Eagles.
"I am happy that I scored a goal in our victory. The game gave us part of what we should expect in CHAN because Ethiopia came strongly in the match," Ugonna said.
Meanwhile, Sunshine Stars defender Solomon Kwambe said the game has put the team in the right frame of mind for CHAN.
"It was a good test for the both sides, but I thank God for the victory," he emphasized.
"The two teams took the game seriously. This is what we should expect at CHAN."
Nigeria are due to fly out to South Africa on 7th January 2014 and open their campaign on Saturday against Mali in Cape Town. Also in Eagles B's group are Mozambique and hosts South Africa.
