Nigeria international and Rivers Angels skipper Evelyn Nwabuoku believes
that the women national team otherwise known as Super Falcons are on
track to being the African football powerhouse they were in the past
despite the added pressure.
In a chat with
riversangels80.blogspot.com, ahead of the first leg tie of Namibia 2014
African Women Championship qualifier against Sierra Leone on 15th
February, Evelyn says that the girls were ready for any challenge Sierra
Leone may throw at them.
“We are gradually coming back to our
previous status as Africa’s powerhouse of football, so it’s just left
for us to keep the focus, prepare hard and make the glory days
return,”said Evelyn.
In the past three editions of the AWC, the
Nigeria Women’s Team have twice relinquished their status as the numero
uno, with Equatorial Guinea giving the West Africans a run for their
money.
“We know our fans need more in games we will be playing in
2014, that is why we want to make them proud and wrestle what belongs
to us from our bitter rivals Equatorial Guinea.
“Starting on a
new ground gives us the extra edge to prepare well, because we know that
other teams do the same just because they want to play us,” she added.
The
Edwin Edem Okon led Super Falcons will resume training on 6th January
2014 ahead of the two-legged encounter against their West African
neighbors, Sierra Leone.
