Sunshine Queens Head Coach, Kayode Olujohungbe has saluted the team after they swept past their opponents, COD United Lagos
in the Week one game of the Nigeria Women Premier League on Wednesday.
The Akure based team played their second game of the NWPL, beating the new league comers 3-0 in a keenly contested game at the Akure Township Stadium.
Patience Agbokhade put Sunshine Queens in the lead in the
24th minute from the penalty spot after a COD defender handled the ball in
the area and was sent off.
Yakubu Aminat added a brace in the second half.
Olujohungbe said his team deserves commendation for their performance in the last two games.
''The girls have done well beating the Lagos club and they deserve some commendation,'' the lanky coach said.
''Beating such teams is not always easy because they have
been together longer and they are mobile. They too deserve some praises.
But I must say that we are not there yet, there is room for
improvement," he added.
Meanwhile, Team Manager of the club, Sunday Erelusi commended the team's fighting spirit and determination to win matches.
''I have to congratulate the players and officials for the
win. Two games, two wins, it is marvelous. The football agency under Hon.
Akin Akinbobola will continue to do everything possible to encourage
you succeed,'' Erelusi told the girls.
"Be ready for any challenge this season and God will help
us. Don't underrate any opponent, our targets this season is to win trophies so
we must be ready and work harder for the tasks", the TM charged the girls.
Sunshine Queens have six points from two matches and they will host
Pelican Stars on Saturday May 16th at the Akure
Township Stadium.
