For Abdulrahman Bashir, A Leap From A Fringe Player To A Jinx Breaker

It took Lobi Stars of Makurdi 900 minutes of playing time in their 10th game of the season to win their first full points. Lobi Stars broke the unwinning jinx on the 19th minute of play by Bashir Abdulrahman, the player they took on loan from former champions, Enyimba International.

Before that midweek fixture, Lobi had drawn all four games at their home ground, Aper Aku Stadium with two other draws on the road against Bayelsa United and FC Taraba.

Bashir joined Enyimba from Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC at the start of the 2013/14 season and made an immediate impact emerging the highest goalscorer including a hat-trick against Bayelsa United at the pre-season Premier League Super 4 in Abuja which Enyimba won.

Bashir will go on to play for the Aba side in the 2014 Champions League, crashing out before the group stage to Malian side, AS Real Bamako.

But his fortunes at the Peoples Elephant dipped; what with the blistering form of league's all-time highest scorer in a season, Mfon Udoh who coach Kadiri Ikhana preferred at the right side forward.

He languished on the bench and recently jumped on the offer to switch to Lobi Stars on loan. The former ABS FC forward recently told an all sports newspaper that he left Enyimba in order to earn first team place and playing time.

He has been quoted to have said: "It was difficult staying on the bench without playing at Enyimba. I actually thought I could contribute on the pitch but the coach there did not give me the chance to prove myself. I'm happy to have joined Lobi Stars where I believe I can contribute more to the team."

For Bashir, he has moved from a fringe player to a jinx breaker and it would also have been like his start for Enyimba with a hat-trick if the player was not so wasteful in front of goal on numerous occasions including a memorable chance on 43rd minute when he failed to connect a pass from Akleche Enockela another ABS FC star midfielder.

Bashir also blew another opportunity in the later part of the second half but that did not dampen his excitement of finding a refreshing relief for Lobi fans in Makurdi.
