FC Cologne President has revealed the idea behind Anthony Ujah sale
to Bundesliga rival club side, Werder Bremen. It was due to his
inapproriate behaviour involving the club’s Mascot despite the Nigerian
apology to the Mascot named Hennes.
During a game against Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this season Ujah scored as Cologne romped to a 4-1 victory and celebrated by pulling sharply on Hennes’s horns and attempted to mount the animal but the gesture wasn’t welcomed by the fans and management of the club.
Ujah posted on Instagram with the caption “Apologies to Hennes for my hard celebration” and in a tweet that was later deleted the Nigerian striker said: “Yeeeeees. Finally a win for us at home and what a special way it came. Sorry to Hennes I was a bit too hard on him.”
But Cologne President Werner Spinner revealed that some irate fans have called for the sale of the Super Eagles forward.
He siad: “Ujah has been a great professional we wanted to keep him at this great club but it seems he won’t be able to stay with us more than this season. Cologne’s club crest, complete with club mascot Hennes the goat, has been projected onto the Hoover Dam in the United States, with the club claiming a record for “the biggest Hennes ever”.
“Hennes has been the friend of this club for long. So we were surprised he drew his horn in celebration mode after scoring against Frankfurt.”
Cologne-based PR agency Oliver Schrott Kommunikation (OSK) said: “I was suprised when I saw the game because I didn’t watch it live. He’s the first player to draw the horns of Hennes. And some fans are sad.”
Adding his voice, Cologne managing director Alexander Wehrle stated: “The fantastic photos of the FC logo on the Hoover Dam are an honour for us and we are naturally very pleased.
“It is great that FC fans are working on such extravagant projects and ensuring that 1. FC Koln has a presence on one of the most famous structures of mankind but it’s just sad that Ujah won’t be part of it from next season. That is really just different.”
Hennes VIII, as he is officially known, hit the headlines earlier this season when he was offered an apology by Anthony Ujah after the striker tugged on his horns in celebration during a 4-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.”
