Women Soccer- Tough one in USA

The sense of excitement is increasing with each passing week in the USA’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), with the teams set to enjoy home advantage in the semi-final play-offs now finalised following the last round of action. In Sweden the race for the title is hotting up, while Liverpool maintained top spot in England.

With FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC and Western New York Flash each already guaranteed a semi-final play-off berth after the penultimate round of fixtures, home advantage was up for grabs on the final matchday. The latter side made no mistake and topped the standings thanks to a 2-1 win over Boston Breakers. Despite a 2-1 defeat to Chicago Red Stars, Kansas will likewise enjoy home support after finishing second by virtue of their superior goal difference over Portland, who beat Seattle Reign 2-1. Sky Blue ended up fourth following a 1-1 draw with Washington Spirit.

Top four: Western New York Flash, Kansas City, Portland Thorns (each on 38 points), Sky Blue FC (36)
