Taraba Queens started the 2014/15 Nigeria Women Premier League season on a positive note as they narrowly defeated Pelican Stars 2-1 at the Jolly Nyame Stadium on Saturday.
It was the magic of substitute Abiodun Omolola, who came from the bench to aid the hosts to win in a tension soaked clash.
Sikirat Isah grabbed the first goal for Taraba Queens when the ball fell to her path.
This was after the homers had squandered several scoring chances to score.
Pelican Stars ended the first half with so much work to do after their attempts at levelling failed.
With a goal down, Pelican Stars resumed the second half with a renewed strength and increased their efforts at restoring their pride.
And they were back on level terms in the 61st minute
Olatunji Adewale’s changes seemed to have provided Hearts some more bite upfront as super-sub Omolola stepped into the game with her industry and magic.
Omolola fetched the winner for Taraba Queens fifteen minutes from time. It was a brilliant effort from the attacking midfielder.
