Chairman of Kogi United, Mallam Abdul Adama has expressed delight with
his boys' excellent performance in a 1-0 home win over Plateau United to
complete a hundred percent home record in the Nigeria National League.
Ismail Mayaki's strike in the ninth minute was all Kogi United needed to salvage a victory in a pulsating encounter in Lokoja on Saturday.
It was a battle Mallam Adama described as an away game for Kogi United because of Plateau United's antics at the match coupled with handling of the game by match officials.
Mallam Adama who said he was satisfied with the performance of the team this season, noting that there is all to play for in their last match against Spotlight in Katsina.
"We really appreciate God for this hard earned victory, it was a tough one, they (Plateau United) came with a plan of getting a win or draw, and you can see how they were assisted too, unfortunately, we missed a lot of scoring chances, if not it would have been a match we can make reference to, but I'm really satisfied with my boys, they displayed a great level of discipline and calm to deny them from scoring.
"Definitely, it was a perfect achievement for us to end the home games with a perfect record, our resolve before the season was not to drop any point here (Lokoja), and over all, it was ok, it has been a perfect season for restructuring and repositioning for us, and we hope to build on this success," Adama said.
Coach for the Confluence State team, Yinka Kelvin also echoed his chairman's position on the club's performance as he admitted that Plateau United made the game difficult for his boys. He noted that total focus and quick adjustment to any game situation earned his side the victory.
Head coach of the Jos based side, Patrick Mancha said that Kogi United deserved the victory even as he had earlier thought of picking a point in Lokoja. He however expressed optimism of getting one of the tickets to the Premier League.
Kogi United have however garnered 46 points from 29 matches and will finish the season with an away tie against Spotlight FC in Katsina on Saturday.
