Nigeria's U-17 team played out a goalless draw with Egypt in the first of 2-game friendly scheduled to take place in Cairo this weekend.
Both sides agreed to organize a series of friendlies back in April, with two games to be played in Kaduna in May and another two in Cairo in July, as a part of preparations for the 2015 African U-17 Championship's qualifying games.
Egypt planned to take revenge for two defeats suffered in May - as Eaglets won 3-2 and 3-1 - but was once again Junior Pharaohs were unable to defeat Emmanuel Amuneke's boys and it was Nigeria who left the better impression after the first game played at the Police Sports Federation Stadium in Cairo.
Eaglets' Samuel Chukwueze thought he scored in the 17th minute, after his rebound from Suleiman Abdullahi's shot found the net, but the goal was disallowed due to offside. Remarkably, almost the exact situation took place 10 minutes later, when Chukwueze's another successful attempt was also ruled out for offside.
Egypt had their best opportunity just before the break, but Nigeria's Benjamin Amos made a brilliant fingertip save to deny the hosts' Hamdy Abdulaziz, while Eaglets continued to pressure Junior Pharaohs in the second 45 minutes but just couldn't find the winner.
After the last friendly of the 4-game series between the teams tomorrow, both Nigeria and Egypt will take on DR Congo and Congo, respectively, in African U-17 Championship's qualifiers later in July.
