Gombe United have wrapped up the registration of seven new players to
augment their playing body ahead of the second round of the Globacom
Nigeria Premier League.
The Savannah Scorpions endured a torrid first round of the Premier League finishing in the relegation zone with 20 points.
But an official of the club told Futball Galore Magazine that they are bringing on board these new players to beef up the team and gear up towards the second round of the NPL.
“We have registered seven new players and hope to wrap up two more signings before the Wednesday 16th July transfer deadline,” the official said.
The players are; Mathias Samuel (Kano Pillars), Austin Ekpoma (Dolphins FC), Maurice Chigozie (Plateau United), Peter Iyamu (Bendel Insurance), Isaac Giwa (El-Kanemi Warriors) and Cyril Obodo.
He also assured fans of the Savannah Scorpions that the club will not be relegated at the end of the season.
“I hear people talk about the possibility of the club getting relegated and I think that is not possible. Even though we ended the first round in the relegation zone, I’m very confident that with the signing of the new players we will begin to grind out the results needed to maintain our status in the league in the second round. We are even targeting finishing in the top half of the table,” he stressed.
The new players are set to strengthen the team and to complement the existing
ones in the club and will replace nine players dropped based on recommendation from the club’s technical committee.
The affected players are; Victor Barnabas, Sanusi Sani, Hassan Hussaini, Bilyaminu Aliyu, Mba Obinna, Emmanuel BIvan, Ola Ogundele, Iyang Asuquo and McMarcel Obioha.
In the second round of the Premier League matches, the team will be led by Austin Cerezo Eguavoen and Oladuni Oyekale.
Former head coach of the side, Maurice Cooreman stepped aside having been ill for over two months.
