Female football in Nigeria may be on the ascendancy within the last five years with the amazing performance in the National U-17 Female group the Flamingoes and their U-20 counterpart the Falconets.

Some of the past players in the Super Falcons have come to be household names in Nigeria, with some of these been given nicknames because of the scintillating performance in the field of play.

Below is a profile of three key members in the Super Falcons dynamic in their playing days.

Mercy Akide(Marvelous)

Mercy Akide remains the greatest goal scorer in the female national team till date with over twenty goals spanning over a long time. She was nicknamed- Marvelous Mercy Akide as a result of beautiful goals she obtained and her unique and graceful technique. In your height of her career, she played club football in the united states before hanging her sports both. She is presently married to ace journalist Collins Udoh.

Nkiru Okosieme(Headmistress)

Nkiru Okosieme was born in 1972 to some sort of footballing family in Delta Condition Nigeria. A midfielder who experienced a distinguishing career playing for any senior National female team- Your Super Falcons, she was given the nickname- Headmistress because of her knack for score crucial goals via headers. The veteran once scored a hat-trick with an African Women Championship match all coming as a result of headers. Kikelemo Ajayi(Mamayaro)

Kikelemo Ajayi was a left full back player for the senior National female team-The Super Falcons of Nigeria. She boasts a distinction of additionally captaining the team to success in the 2006 African Women Champion held in Nigeria. She also scored the opening goal inside 6-0 mauling of Algeria. She earned the nickname- Mamayaro because she plays in the same position as former Super Eagles star opponent Celestine Babayaro. She also overlaps in similar fashion on the former Olympic Gold medalist.
