When Bayelsa Queens unleashed Evelyn Nwabuoku to the Naija Female
scene, many doubters felt it was a joke. To those that knew what she
could offer, they had confidence in her playing skills.
The Rivers Angels skipper’s performance in the Fed Cup, together with a number of performances in the league [the 5-0 win against Tewo Queens and the penalty shootout victories over Ibom Angels and Confluence Queens to name but three], had Angels fans purring.
The former KMF of Finland player known by stunch followers of the NWFL as “The Versatile Lady” hardly put any wrong in her launching of attacks.
To most fans, she is having best season in the duration of her career, having initiated 50% of Rivers Angels goals in the NWFL and the NFF Fed Cup. The Super Falcons utility player possess all of the attributes a successful modern-day central midfielder requires: she recycles the ball well, retains possession under pressure, and brings tremendous energy to the side – qualities that are somewhat underrated by so many NWFL viewers.
Given what she offers to the team, Angels gaffer Edwin Okon said great things about the skimmer.
“Evelyn is a sort of player who knows what to do on the pitch. Her contribution on and off the pitch is flawless,” he said.
Her combination with Asisat Oshoala, Francione Bella, Gloria Iroka and Aighwei Amenze keeps tongues wagging.
If there’s one thing Evelyn could, and perhaps must, improve on, however, it’s her goalscoring. Playing in a deeper role alongside Oshoala obviously plays its part, but doesn’t necessarily prevent her from getting into goalscoring positions. Her link-up play in the final third is excellent.
She showed fans that she can also score with a crucial 78th minute strike when loyal followers of Rivers Angels had lost hope of progression in a Fed Cup tie against Confluence Queens.
