Egbuchulam, Onoriode Shoots Rangers To FA Cup Final

Enugu Rangers had to wait for a late rally to overcome non-league side F.B.F FC 2-1 and qualify for the final of 2015 Enugu State FA Cup.

Rangers will now tackle another non-league side, Samba F.C, who defeated F.C Inter by a lone goal in an earlier semifinal played at the same venue.

Coach Kelechi Emeteole said after the encounter: “It was very tough. We nearly paid the price for some slack defending. Thank God we were able to come back and earn a win that is well deserved.”

Obinna Gerald had silenced the Rangers supporters who had thronged the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to watch the encounter with a well-taken goal on 29 minutes after a loss of concentration by the Rangers backline.

The amateurs were the better team as their fluidity in the middle of the park, where Ekene Nwaobosi, Ekene Akalazu and Ezionye Chinedu held sway ahead of their much experienced players fielded by coach Kelechi Emeteole.

With the game almost running out of their grasp, Rangers bench threw in Chisom Egbuchulam and Odah Onoriode and their impact was immediate as the sleek moves of Chisom was too much for the opponents’ defence.

A well-taken spot kick on 80 minutes by Chisom after a defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in the vital area, drew Rangers level, while a quick interchange of passes between the trio of Chisom Egbuchulam, Ousmane Pape Sane and Dada Bitrus released Onoriode to fire in the winning goal on 87th minute to the huge relief of the Premier League side.
