Kogi United maintained their hundred percent home record in the ongoing Nigeria National League, with a 2-1 hard fought victory over Wikki Tourists in Lokoja.
In a pulsating match played at the Confluence Stadium on Saturday, Odeyemi Ebenezer had earlier put the hosts in the lead within first two minutes into the game when he directed Afolabi Abiodun's free kick to the net, but Wikki leveled up the score in the 23rd minutes when Shammah Tanze jumped above keeper Shola Sheshere.
The Wada Boys regained the lead in the 38th minutes with a 25 yard screamer from Osas Eghe which later became the winning goal for the hosts.
Reacting to the match, Assistant Coach of Kogi United, Yinka Kelvin who admitted that his side faced a difficult side in Wikki Tourists said team believe earned Kogi united the victory.
He however said that the Confluence state club would get it right in readiness for their next game against Niger Tornadoes.
"It was a very tough game for us, Wikki came here with the target of getting a point here, they really showed that they are the league leaders, but we thank God we were able to overpower them and get the needed victjory.
"We were not that better in the second half which almost cost us the game, we knew it won't be easy that's why we prepared harder for it, but we will go back and make amendment for our next match (with Niger Tornadoes) in Minna." Kelvin said.
Chairman of the Confluence State club, Abdul Adama who express dissatisfaction with the match officiating charged the league board and NFF to always work towards sanitizing the league from politics.
However, Technical Adviser of Wikki Tourists, Tunde Abdulrahman thumped up Kogi United for giving good account of themselves just as he believe the Wada Boys have what it takes to end the season well.
Kogi United have now garnered 43 points and will next face Niger Tornadoes in Minna on Saturday.
