Kaduna United were crowned
champions of the Kaduna State FA cup after a slim 1-0 win over ABU
Zaria.
The boys from Northern Nigeria premier university will take consolation
from the defeat as qualifying for the final earned them a spot in the
National Federation cup.
They started the game brightly and were the better side in large spell
of the game until substitute Sunday Alasco popped up with the winner for
Kaduna United in the 75th minute.
ABU failed to defend a corner properly and Chika Ezeanagu rise highest
to nod the ball down for Alasco to prod home form a crowded defence.
This year Kaduna state FA cup was played with only Kaduna United as the
state professional side as other NNL,NNWL side boycotted the
tournament.
Also, ABU's run to the final will re invigorate the need for tertiary
institutions in Nigeria to invest in Sports as it has not been so for a
while.
For Kaduna United it is a welcome relief for them after they were
walked over last season for failing to travel for their knock out game
due to cash constraint.
The team now under the tutelage of Honourable Sabo Babayaro the man who
steered them to the national trophy in 2010 will be hoping to regain
promotion to the top flight this season.
