Over 140 Under 13 players from the Federal Capital Territory will take part in the 2015 edition of the FOSLA Football Academy scholarship programme.
According to a programme from the Academy and signed by Coordinator of the football tournament Patrick Ngwaogu, the programme would hold on Saturday 4th April, 2015 at the Academy's playing ground in Karshi Abuja.
He said all the six Area Councils and Karshi would take part in tournament "already, we have gone round the six Area councils of FCT to screen the players who must be Under the ages of thirteen years, and in primary five and six. Those selected would join those already selected from Kogi state to compete for the ten academic scholarship available in the Academy".
Speaking further on the programme, the proprietor and founder of the Academy, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi said the programme which started in 1999 was aimed at identifying talented players who are naturally endowed in the game of football and providing them with the platform where they can combine their academics with football " our school is now in the fifth year, but we started this programme in 1999.
Our curriculum is approved by the government in line with the Nigeria Educational Programme. We organize this programme on yearly basis, and those players identified will be given scholarship to continue their education while playing their football in the school starting from JSS 1.
We have about 70 students in the school now, with over 50 of them enjoying the Academy's scholarship, while the others are fee paying students.
The unique thing about the school next academic session is that we would be admitting girls for the first time. Though for this year, the girls may not enjoy the scholarship, but in subsequent editions, and as God gives us the resources, we would include them. But parents are free to enroll their children in the Academy, even if they are not footballers" the former NFF President concluded.
The 10 players that would be selected at the end of the programme will enjoy a total yearly scholarship of N7.25million.
