Tornadoes Snatch Vital Away Victory

Niger Tornadoes on Saturday in Abuja grabbed a vital 1-0 away victory against bottom placed Prisons FC of Abuja in a Week 29 match of the Nigeria National League (NNL).

The match played at the Area 3 Sports Complex saw Martins Usulu scoring the only goal against already relegated Prisons FC.

Both sides had several goal scoring chances. However it was the visitors who looked more dangerous and deservedly scored after a goal-mouth scramble in the 42nd minute.

Prisons FC had nothing to lose, while Niger Tornadoes had a lot to play for as they are still in the race for the second promotion ticket in Group A to Nigeria’s elite league.

Niger Tornadoes came into the game 6th on the log with 44 points and needed to win to ensure that they kept pace with other contenders.

Godwin Uwa, Head Coach of Niger Tornadoes, told newsmen after the match that he was happy with the away victory.

“I am so excited because this was an important win for us as it has done us a lot of good.

“It has put us in pole position for the second ticket in our group and I am hopeful that we can still gain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season,” he said.
