Savage: Arsenal Must Get Rid Of Wenger

Robbie Savage is of the belief that Arsenal need to part ways with Arsene Wenger if they want get out of the rut they are currently stuck in.

The Gunners have won just one trophy under the Frenchman since 2005 – last season’s FA Cup – but the north London club continues to stick by the man who has been at the helm since 1996.

Former Leicester City and Derby County midfielder Savage admits he holds a huge amount of respect for Wenger but feels that it may be time to move on for the good of the club.

“...where are Arsenal going under Wenger this season?” was the question Savage posed in a column for The Mirror.

“They are not going to win the Premier League - the Gunners are 15 points behind Chelsea already. No way are they going to make up that deficit.

“They are not going to win the Champions League - barring a miracle, they will finish runners-up in their group behind Borussia Dortmund, draw one of the continent's big guns and go out, as usual, in the last 16 or quarter-finals.

“They will probably finish in the top four again. But no higher.

“We’ve seen it all before and heard it all before. Wenger’s reign has turned into a scratched record – stuck in a rut.”

Savage added: “At Arsenal, if Wenger made way now, there would be room for improvement.

“I’ve said it before and been proved wrong, but this time it really might be the end of an era.

“Whatever Chelsea may go on to achieve this season, Wenger built the first Invincibles team in English football, and that should be his legacy.

“But I sense an all-time great’s reign is drawing to a close at the Emirates.”
