Dedevbo: We Were More Superior Than New Zealand

Following their impressive 4-1 win over New Zealand in their quarter final game at the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, Super Falconets Coach Peter Dedevbo has described the win as very easy.

Two goals each from Asisat Oshoala and Uchechi Sunday ensured the Africans secured a big win over their Oceania counterparts and book a place in the semifinal, and Dedevbo believes the game was easier than expected.

“It was an easy game to be honest, a very easy one. I didn’t expect it to be as easy as it was and I’m not surprised we came out with such a big win,” he told sl10.

To show how easy the game really was, the Nigerians started the game on a fast pace and scored the first goal in just 31 seconds through the impressive Oshoala.

Dedevbo says his players were just having fun during the game.

“My girls were just having fun, they were enjoying themselves. That is to tell you how easy it was for us and I’m happy with their composure and character, it was really a delight to see,” Dedevbo added.

The Falconets next play Korea DPR on Wednesday in one of the semifinal games, but Dedvbo insists that despite the easy win over New Zealand they have to keep their focus and be steadfast.

“We have given the players time off on Monday morning but we resume training for our game against the Koreans in the evening,” he said.

“We have to be steadfast and keep our focus because we know how difficult it gets from this stage. It gets tougher once you go higher, so we have to prepare adequately for the semifinals.”
