Interview Session With Abu Azeez

Bayo Psalm: Good morning. Can we have your full name?

Abu Azeez: Abu Azeez

Bayo Psalm: What you do? And where you do them?

Abu Azeez: I'm a professional footballer. I play for Warri Wolves FC in Delta State. Also play for the National Beach Soccer team of Nigeria.

Bayo Psalm: That's a full resume. But before I continue with the questions a little birdie told us that today is your birthday

Abu Azeez: Thank you.

Bayo Psalm Gidi: You are welcome. So any special celebrations?

Abu Azeez: I'm just coming back from the orphanage now. Went to celebrate with them.

Bayo Psalm: Wow. That is great.

Bayo Psalm Gidi: Family background?

Abu Azeez: I'm the last child of 5. 4 boys,1 girl.

Bayo Psalm: Now let's talk on your club career. How it all started till now.

Abu Azeez: Started from Owibeseb FC in 2009 to Julius Berger FC, Lagos, then Bridge FC, Lagos. Before Kwara United in 2011. I'm now with Warri Wolves.

Bayo Psalm: Why beach soccer?

Abu Azeez: Errrrrm,beach soccer wasn't in my agenda. Beach soccer came calling when I was playing for my grassroot team, Owisebeb FC, back then in 2009. We played a friendly match against the national team. Thats how I was picked.

Bayo Psalm: Which year did you start playing for the Beach Eagles officially?

Abu Azeez: 2009

Bayo Psalm: You are a prolific striker for the team who has scored lots of goals to help Nigeria garner medals and cups. Can we know the exact number of goals and medals you've won with the Super sand Eagles?

Abu Azeez: Goals? Errrrm,I should be close to 60 now.
Medal? 3 Copa Lagos as champions.

Bayo Psalm: Wow. Close to 60 goals. Does that mean you are the highest goal scorer in the history of Nigeria?

Abu Azeez: Maybe. I think.

Bayo Psalm: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Abu Azeez: Where Arsene Wenger is.

Bayo Psalm: You want to play for Arsenal. That's a very good dream. We hear you are also an Arsenal fan

Bayo Psalm: Have you ever played for the Super Eagles or dream of playing at that level?

Abu Azeez: I haven't played, But hoping to soonest.

Bayo Psalm: Last but not least, how do you think Nigerian players can improve their standard at home here to get international recognition without going abroad blindly.

Because the whole country has to hand it to you. You've played all your junior and senior level career in the country but can still be picked one of the best ever when it come to beach soccer and football generally..

Abu Azeez: Simple. We should try to make the right moves, continue been consistent in our games, and improve in all aspect as a professional player.
