NNL SLEDGE HAMMER FALLS ON WAYWARD SPOTLIGHT


Determined to discourage attacks on match officials, the management of Nigeria National League, has descended heavily on Spotlight FC of Katsina by imposing a fine of N.2 million in the first instance and a suspension of its team captain and secretary till further notice.
 
NNL Secretary, Lawrence Katken in strongly worded letter sent to the management of Spotlight quoted Article 6.0 (1) of Rules and Regulations of the competition which the club had breached by the deliberate attack on the match officials in its home match against Supreme Court FC in Katsina.
 
According to the report of the said match submitted to NNL, it was stated that Spotlight FC ‘s Captain Abdulahi Juli and Secretary Musa Abubakar and three others at-large were involved in inflicting bodily injuries on the officiating officials for reasons best known to them.
 
For this act of hooliganism, both Juli and Abubakar have been handed an indefinite suspension while Spotlight FC will cough out the sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200, 000.00) only which must be paid in 14 days or risk severe penalty.
 
Also, the management of Spotlight has been given to make public the identities of the other three people who participated in the molestation of the match officials or risk further sanctions as the NNL will deem fit.
 
The Katsina State Football Association has also been warned to do the needful by ensuring the provision of adequate security before, during and after the match to safeguard life and properties of both parties in the game.
 
Katken reminded the culprits that the above sanctions are just an interim measures pending its ratification by the Nigeria Football Federation Disciplinary Committee.
