NNL Week Three Wrap - Kogi United Rampant, Crown Pull Away As Magical Supreme Court Upset Spotlight

Kogi United thrashed Yobe Desert Stars 3-0 in the Nigeria National League on Saturday, while Crown FC extended their lead at the summit.


Destiny Ashadi marked an excellent performance with a brace and rock-solid defender Ernest Governor grabbed a 28-metre free-kick for the Wada Boys at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium.

Ashadi opened his account from the penalty spot after 14 minutes.

Former Supreme Court defender Governor doubled the hosts' lead on 45 minutes before Ashadi netted a wonderful solo effort in the 66th minute.

Benson Omodoku bagged a second half strike as Crown edged Remo Stars 1-0 at the Soun Stadium in Ogbomoso.

The slim win increased their points haul in the Group B1 to nine from a possible nine.

Supreme Court picked the most surprising result of the weekend when they twice cameback to wreck Spotlight 3-2 at the newly-commissioned Karkanda Stadium in Katsina.

Spotlight got the opener in the 38th minute, before Supreme striker Peter Michael leveled the goal tally before half time.

Back in the second half, Spotlight fought harder and took the lead once more before their defence foul right in front of goal post allowed substitute Friday Jacob who scored from spot kick to level score again for Supreme Court in the 87th minute.

Substitute Eric Eric who came on for Festus Austin wired a screamer directly inside his opponents’ goal post to seal the game for the Apex Boys.

Supreme Court are fifth but closed to within two points of Jigawa Golden Stars, who won 3-0 at home to Adamawa United.

Kaduna United's bid for promotion received a boost after the Kaduna side left it late to break the spine of hard fighting Plateau United in a five-goal thriller.

Myep Bulus silenced the hosts when he latched on to a corner kick in the 32nd minute.

Poor finishing robbed Kaduna United a well deserved equalizer as the first stanza ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors.

The second half produced four goals as the homers won the match in a dramatic fashion.

Sunday Alasko who was a phobia on match day was at the right place to level matters for Kaduna United.

FC Zamfara relied on a criminal error by ABS defence line to record a 2-1 victory, while Abdullahi Biffo's Niger Tornadoes earned a 0-0 draw against FRSC FC in Abuja.

Nembe City were back to winning ways as they overcame 2-1, their fourth win from five games, Chukwuemeka Ugundu and Damola Fakayode delivered as Prime scored two unreplied goals at home to Abia Comets, while a resolute Ikorodu United side drew 0-0 at Go Round.
