We are focused on the task ahead says Peter Dedevbo

Peter Dedevbo, the head coach of the Nigerian women U20 side, said on Tuesday in Abuja that he was focused on putting together his team and not too bothered about Sierra Leone.

The girls were supposed to have feasted on Burkina Faso, but there was a change in plan.

Dedevbo said that his girls would not be distracted by the recent change of opponents by African Football governing body, CAF.

Falconets will welcome the away side in first leg game at the newly-refurbished Abuja National Stadium on 26th October, 2013.

Dedevbo said the Falconets were rather concentrating on their preparations for now.

"We are not focusing on who becomes our opponents, but instead on what we are going to do to make the team better,’’ he said.

The lanky tactician who led the Flamingoes to the 2010 and 2012 World Cup respectively, said his coaching staffs will continue to mould the team until it gets to a satisfactory state.

"Each match, like the game against Sierra Leone, presents something for both the technical crew and players to think about and learn from,’’ he said.

Dedevbo however said he had requested for video tapes of matches involving the Sierra Leonean team from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to enable them prepare adequately for the qualifier.

"My coaching colleagues and I will spend some time to look at the tapes when they arrive, so as to prepare for the game, since we have not seen much of the Sierra Leoneans before,’’ he said.

Delta Queens ace, Patience Okaeme, one of the players in the Falconets’ camp in Abuja, disclosed that the team were in high spirits ahead of the qualifier.

Patience,a utility player on the books of the current league champions said the team would do everything possible to ensure that they qualify for the world showpiece.

"We have been going through rigorous training here (Abuja) in the camp and I am confident that, at the end of it all, all our efforts will be justified,’’ she said.

The girls currently sweating it for jersies at the FIFA Goal Project Centre in Abuja, will play the second leg game in Freetown on 9th November, 2013.

Falconets finished 4th in the 2012 edition of the mundial hosted by Japan.
