Kano Pillars midfielder, Shehu Abdullahi says his side will not rest until they have successfully defended the Glo Nigeria Professional Football League title which they won last season.
The versatile player disclosed this following his side 1-0 victory over Enyimba in Lokoja after the week-31 rescheduled match with plenty thanks to substitute Manir Ubale on the injury time winner on Tuesday.
Shehu who came close in the getting a lead for the side saw his great header brilliantly saved by Enyimba’s Femi Thomas said the victory proved his side they were better though playing against a good side in Enyimba.
He said that they have enjoined great dominance in Kano during their previous meeting in the inconclusive tie in which they had a 1-0 lead but rued their missed chances.
The Kano Pillars defensive rock who starred for Nigeria at the 2013 U-20 World Cup in Turkey before edged out by Uruguay admitted that he and his teammates are highly motivated to win the league title back-to-back.
The 20-year-old Sokoto-born star said that the huge supports received from the Kano state government, club management and supports have remained their greatest propelling factor in the league.
“We are happy to get a good victory against Enyimba – we played with so much dominance against them in Kano but fail to convert many of our chances.
“We have enjoined great support from the Kano state government with Governor Kwankwaso calling us to do the people of Kano state proud – we have always believe in us and we do not want to disappoint them,” the calm and collected defender noted.
With three matches to go, the former Plateau United said the title race is still not over but insisted the players and officials of Kano Pillars will never sleep until the last day for the trophy.
“We will not go and sleep as there are still 3 matches to play – we are very determined and highly motivated to win all our remaining games to defend our title,” said the primarily attacking midfielder before converted right-back at Flying Eagles.
If Kano Pillars end the season on top, Shehu Abdullahi will become the first Sokoto born player to win the Nigeria Professional Football League title and even doing back-to-back with Kano Pillars.
Kano Pillars who are in pole-position to retaining the league title topping the log with 60 points from 35 matches though two points ahead of closest rival, Bayelsa United and three over third-placed Enyimba with advantage of two home games.
The Kano Pyramids will travel to Gombe on Friday for week-36 match against Gombe United before returning to their banished ground Lokoja for Dolphins in week-37.
