Burton Town Hall has been confirmed as the venue for the UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship finals draw at 15.30CET (14.30 local time) on Thursday 24 October, while England players Karen Carney and Casey Stoney will be the tournament ambassadors.
Burton-upon-Trent has strong links with the English Football Association (FA) – it is home to their St George's Park training centre – and present to make the draw will be former England internationals and regular BBC pundits Faye White and Sue Smith.
England will be joined by the seven teams that qualify from the elite round, being played now, in the first Women's U17 finals to have an expanded eight-nation format. It was previously a four-sided competition held in UEFA's Swiss home town of Nyon.
Bernard Peters, a member of East Staffordshire Borough Council, said: "The area put on a great show with the Olympic torch relay and showed that the council and partners can come together and organise something of that scale.
"It also comes on the back of the opening of the superb St George's Park, which continues to go from strength to strength. The tournament will hopefully allow us to continue trying to promote our Olympic legacy and get a generation of young girls interested in playing and watching football."
Helping promote the tournament, which will run from 26 November to 8 December and provide Europe's three qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica, will be England forward Carney and captain Stoney. "I'm delighted to be ambassador for the UEFA Women's Under-17 finals in England," Stoney said.
"I began my career with England in a youth Under-18 squad and know how important these tournaments are to develop young players. I spend a lot of time visiting schools talking to children, and hosting a big finals in England is a wonderful way to help inspire youngsters to take up sport. It's going to be a great opportunity for our young England players and I can't wait to watch the games and uncover some new stars."
Meanwhile, Continental Tyres has been named the main sponsor of the finals. The company, also a sponsor of UEFA EURO 2016 in France and a supporter of the English women's game, will supply competition prizes and furnish local schools with sports equipment to continue the legacy of the championship and aid the development of the game in the area.
Laura Hardy, communications and sponsorship manager for Continental Tyres, said: "Sponsoring the UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship is a great fit for us, combining both women's football and using the St George's Park facility. It's fantastic to support these women in what is hopefully for most of them just the start of successful football careers."
