Real Madrid most valuable team, Man Utd second
Real Madrid headed a trio of European soccer clubs at the top of a list of the world's 50 most valuable sports teams released by Forbes on Monday which was dominated by National Football League (NFL) franchises.
The nine-times European champions were worth $3.3 billion, up from $1.88 billion last year, due in large part to increased revenue from deals with Adidas and Emirates Airlines, Forbes said in a statement.
Manchester United (3.17 billion) swapped places with Real and sit in second spot while Spanish soccer champions Barcelona (2.6 billion) moved up five places to third. Major League Baseball's (MLB) New York Yankees fell one spot to fourth, followed by the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots.
Rounding out the top 10 were MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers, the NFL's Washington Redskins and New York Giants, and London-based soccer club Arsenal.
With 30 teams in the top 50, the NFL occupies 60 percent of this year's list.
The average value of the top 50 teams is $1.24 billion, which is a 16 percent increase from last year.

In his usual thrend, Domestic Super Eagles goalkeeper and captain, Chigozie Agbim was the first to hit camp on Monday afternoon as camp opens for the return leg of the CHAN qualifier final round against the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire in Abidjan on July 27.
Agbim was soon joined by the likes of Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Benjamin Francis, Rabiu Ali and by dinner time almost all the 24 players invited for the crucial tie against the Ivorians had arrived.
The coaching crew who have been locked in several important meetings in the course of the day were impressed by the arrivals but also cautious about the plan by the Elephants to have the game played on artificial turf and have already mapped out plans to ensure that the team will be ready for their antics.
“We learnt from the leadership of the NFF that the game will be played on artificial turf and I must say we were delighted, because we will give our all on such a pitch but we are keeping our plans close to our chest”, team Coordinator, Emmanuel Atta said on Monday evening.
Head Coach Stephen Keshi and his assistants were calm over the development because according to team scribe, Dayo Enebi Achor, “anything they want to throw at us we are sure we have capable hands led by Keshi to counter them”.
The Eagles will resume training on Tuesday morning at the FIFA Goal Project site in the Federal Capital and will for now train once in the morning until the technical crew decides otherwise.

Cavani passes PSG medical- report
Long-time Chelsea target Edinson Cavani has passed his medical ahead of his move to French giants PSG, media reports said late on Monday.

No summer move for Silva- Agent
Thiago Silva’s agent has once more refuted transfer speculation linking his client with a move to Barcelona.
Reports today have it that the defender is returning early from vacation to inform Paris Saint-Germain Coach Laurent Blanc of his intention to leave and sign for Barca.
However, maintaining the stance that PSG have taken through the summer on the matter, the player’s agent has rejected the suggestion that the 28-year-old will be sold.
“He’ll be here for next season and will continue through to the end of his contract,” Pualo Tonietto said.
Silva’s current deal with PSG runs until June 2017.

New era at the Bernabeu- Khedira
Sami Khedira has enthused at starting work at Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti and admitted to the poor relationships that existed under Jose Mourinho.
Today sees Madrid’s players report back for a first day of preseason, where in the afternoon they are due to be put through a first training session by new Coach Ancelotti.
“A new chapter begins at Madrid and at the same time in my career,” Khedira reflected to Die Welt.
“A new Coach is always associated with a new beginning. There are new ideas, a different philosophy of play, I feel a great excitement, I am still very proud to play for Real Madrid.
“Whoever plays at this club, they are playing for titles. I’m sure that the work of Carlo Ancelotti can see us take another step forward.
“I have heard a lot about Ancelotti. Moreover, my teammate Kaka has worked many years with him in Milan. The things he has said have been positive.
“Where he has worked, he has been successful. His teams have always played well. As was the case in Paris last year.
“We have an experienced Coach, a great personality and that puts an emphasis on tactics and discipline. Ancelotti likes to play football and strikes for a team that offers something for its fans.”
Ancelotti was brought in after a difficult third and final year under Jose Mourinho, that saw the Portuguese reportedly clash with a number of players in the dressing room.
“The fact that this issue was so present in public is because there were undoubtedly some inconsistencies in the club.
“Certainly it would have been nice if we had reached the Champions League Final and won the Copa del Rey. This problem was not just with the Coach, but with the players also. We have failed ourselves.
“I think we should have great respect for Jose Mourinho. We have not won enough international titles, but we have succeeded domestically. To me, he is still a great Coach and person.
“Would I go to Chelsea with him? I loved working with Mourinho and I am grateful for the interest.

Today sees Madrid’s players report back for a first day of preseason, where in the afternoon they are due to be put through a first training session by new Coach Ancelotti.
“A new chapter begins at Madrid and at the same time in my career,” Khedira reflected to Die Welt.
“A new Coach is always associated with a new beginning. There are new ideas, a different philosophy of play, I feel a great excitement, I am still very proud to play for Real Madrid.
“Whoever plays at this club, they are playing for titles. I’m sure that the work of Carlo Ancelotti can see us take another step forward.
“I have heard a lot about Ancelotti. Moreover, my teammate Kaka has worked many years with him in Milan. The things he has said have been positive.
“Where he has worked, he has been successful. His teams have always played well. As was the case in Paris last year.
“We have an experienced Coach, a great personality and that puts an emphasis on tactics and discipline. Ancelotti likes to play football and strikes for a team that offers something for its fans.”
Ancelotti was brought in after a difficult third and final year under Jose Mourinho, that saw the Portuguese reportedly clash with a number of players in the dressing room.
“The fact that this issue was so present in public is because there were undoubtedly some inconsistencies in the club.
“Certainly it would have been nice if we had reached the Champions League Final and won the Copa del Rey. This problem was not just with the Coach, but with the players also. We have failed ourselves.
“I think we should have great respect for Jose Mourinho. We have not won enough international titles, but we have succeeded domestically. To me, he is still a great Coach and person.
“Would I go to Chelsea with him? I loved working with Mourinho and I am grateful for the interest.
“He gave me a chance three years ago by taking the plunge at Real Madrid on a young international playing in the Bundesliga.
“But I have a contact with Real Madrid and now I just want to work with Carlo Ancelotti.”

Rivers Angels maintained their grip on the top spot of the Pool B with an easy 5-0 win over Tewo Queens on Sunday.
Aighwei Amenze grabbed a hat-trick, while Onyinechi Ohadugha and Reuben Charity scored as Rivers Angels thrashed Tewo Queens five-nil at the Olubadan Stadium on Sunday.
Rivers Angels named an extremely strong starting 11, with Whyte, Evelyn Nwabuoku, Aighwei Amenze, Mercy Amenze and Gloria Ofuegbu all included by Edwin Okon.
It took Okon's charges 29 minutes to break the deadlock, though, attacker Aighwei turning home a Gloria Ofeugbu's cross to steer the visitors into the lead.
The floodgates soon opened following that strike, Aighwei meeting a deflected delivery from Evelyn to double the advantage with her second in the 45th minute.
Aighwei completed her hat-trick from the edge of the area after 62 minutes before Onyinechi Ohadugha latched on to a superb ball from the the inspirational Evelyn to slot home the fourth right on 69th minute.

The former Barca boss told reporters this week that the Catalan giants would not leave him alone during his self-imposed sabbatical in New York, whilst expressing his frustration with club.
However, his comments have been backed up by former Barcelona handball legend Enric Masip [pictured, right], who was at the heart of the team that won six European Cups in the 1990’s and later became technical secretary of that section of the club, only to leave his post abruptly last January.
The 43-year-old, one of the greatest handball players ever, jumped to Guardiola’s defence in a statement issued via his personal Facebook account.
“It was intense and surprising to hear Pep explaining the persecution he has undergone,” posted Masip.
“He was loud and clear in what he said but it was not a shock. I also got a raw deal and suffered through the lies that were either leaked intentionally or written by people on behalf of the board.
“They only thing they know about is to lie, confuse, and try to damage the image of a club so many people have sweated for and is so beloved by all of us.
“Anybody who sees this as an attack is wrong, but it must be known what kind of people are at the head of this club. I speak not with malice but sadness.
“One day I’ll explain my two-and-a-half years working under these people and about my contract,” he added.

France triumph amid shootout drama
France were crowned as FIFA U-20 World Cup champions after triumphing over Uruguay with a 4-1 win on penalties after a goalless game.
The hero of the night was Alphonse Areola, who saved two of La Celsete's spot-kicks, while Dimitri Foulquier was the man to score the winner of Les Bleuets. Victory saw France claim their first ever FIFA U-20 World Cup title.
The game began tentatively, but Nicolas Lopez and Paul Pogba were the first to test either keeper, though Areola and Guillermo De Amores made light work of their efforts from distance. While Sebastian Cristforo's following effort possessed a little more venom, his long-distance sighter sailed over the bar.
Lopez's next effort proved somewhat more successful on 20 minutes, however. Pouncing on a loose header back by Mouhamadou Sarr, Uruguay's top marksman forced the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper into a sharp stop with his knee.
The game failed to spark as the first-half wore on, with both conscious of the costs that a gung-ho attitude could befall them. Even so, Uruguay finished the opening period the better, with Lopez firing over from a tight angle, before a series of corners had the French defence in a muddle, though no breakthrough arrived.
A popped ball offered some light relief after the interval, but Lopez was at it again even after the change. Cutting across the box, he let rip a rasping left-footed drive, but it drifted wide of the top left corner of Areola's goal. He spurned another chance soon after, slicing wide after an impressive ball form Gino Acevedo.
While France dominated possession, wayward shooting was all that stood between Uruguay and the lead, but Les Bleuets carved out their first chance in some time when Alexy Bosetti volleyed Florian Thauvin's cross over the ball.
Soon after though Felipe Avenatti had the best chance of the game. Substitute Giorgian De Arrascaeta slipped him in beautifully behind the France defence, but Areola was alert and charged down the tall Uruguayan's effort.
With the game opening up Jordan Vertout drew the best save of the night from De Amores, palming away a thunderous effort from the edge of the area, before then denying Bosetti from the resulting corner.
Emiliano Velazquez's miscued cross almost lobbed Areola with three minutes to go, but the game went to extra-time. Quick feet from De Arrascaeta saw him create room to test the keeper, but it was a tame effort – though the little playmaker had certainly added some invention to proceedings since taking the stage.
Neither side can find the necessary spark to avoid a dramatic penalty shootout to decide the destination of the title though. When Velazquez and De Arrascaeta both saw their efforts saved, Foulquier was on hand to score France's fourth-successive spot-kick and hand Pierre Mankowski's side the trophy.

The presence of Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State couldn't provide the victory magic for Kogi United as they only managed coming twice from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against FC Taraba at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on Saturday.
The encounter which clearly brings to bear the desperation of two sides with different ambitions as Kogi United in the relegation fight and promotion ticket chasing FC Taraba locked horns with two league matches to go.
The replayed Nigeria National League match behind closed-doors forced a rematch following the ruling from the Nigeria Football Federation Organising and Disciplinary Panel over a protest filed by the Taraba side against Kogi United on their earlier visit.
FC Taraba boosted their promotion ambitions after they stormed in front to finish the first half ahead on 1-0.
The home side returned with plenty of energy knowing a loss may end their two-year stay in the NNL when they pull one back early in the second half.

Moyes begins Old Trafford journey with defeat

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes star forward Cristiano Ronaldo is the "best player in the world" and has warned rivals that there is more to come from the Portugal international.
The 28-year-old Ronaldo and Real Madrid have been at logger-heads over a new contract, with speculation mounting that the player could return to the Premier League and Manchester United.
But after a recent interview in which Perez said he believed Ronald "will retire" at the Bernabeu, the club's president was again outlining the Portuguese's importance in the Spanish capital.
"He is the face of the team and the best player in the world," Perez told Gol Caracol on Friday. "He is going to give us much more satisfaction for his talent, ambition and enthusiasm; and now he has reached a perfect relationship with the fans.
"We are yet to see the best of him. He can be the best of all time."

Shad Khan the new owner of Fulham
Fulham was sold to Jacksonville Jaguars billionaire owner Shad Khan on Friday, making the west London club the sixth in the Premier League to now be under American ownership.
Khan bought the London club from longtime owner Mohamed Al Fayed in a deal that strengthens his links with the British capital, having already arranged for his American football team to play matches here. The Jaguars have a deal to play one home game in London for four consecutive seasons, starting in October at Wembley Stadium against the San Francisco 49ers.
"Fulham is the perfect club at the perfect time for me," Khan said in a statement. "I want to be clear, I do not view myself so much as the owner of Fulham, but a custodian of the club on behalf of its fans. My priority is to ensure the club and Craven Cottage each have a viable and sustainable Premier League future that fans of present and future generations can be proud of."

Club owners enjoined the LMC to spell out stiffer sanctions on clubs that cause prevention of Live or Video coverages of matches as well as those involved in assault of match officials.
On the lingering crisis over Title and TV right sponsorship, Club owners urged the LMC and all the parties involved to respect all existing contractual agreements and MOU in order to avoid further litigations.
The club owners have set up a 5-man Transition committee headed by Barrister S.B Aluko of Kwara United to advise the association and guide us on how best to approach the forth-coming election into the League board, in line with FIFA Standard Electoral code. Other members of the committee are Zanna Mala(Elkanemi Warriors), Dumbor Awanen( Dolphins FC), Alabi Demola( Shooting Stars SC), Oscar Keke(Heartland FC) Secretary.
Club owners also derecognize, dissassociate self from any purported interview conducted to recruit any new staff for the League.

Keshi prepares for the battle of Abidjan, names a strong squad
Nigeria national team gaffer Stephen Okechukwu has reeled out his 24-man squad expected to prosecute the all-important return leg clash of the 2014 CHAN qualifier against Ivory Coast in Abidjan on 27th July, 2013.

Aston Villa's Benteke wants Tottenham move over Chelsea
Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke remains convinced over a move to
Tottenham ahead of Chelsea. Benteke has been aware of interest from the two London clubs for some time, but has his heart set on a move to White Hart Lane.

Lazio, Genoa, Lecce face match-fixing trial
Lazio, Genoa, Lecce and eight players, including Lazio captain Stefan Mauri, will face charges related to match-fixing, the Italian football federation said Wednesday.
The federation said the charges include rigging games and failing to report match-fixing for two Serie A games - Lazio vs. Genoa and Lecce vs. Lazio in May 2011.
Mauri faces a charge of sporting fraud, as do Mario Cassano, Carlo Gervasoni, Omar Milanetto, Alessandro Zamperini, Massimiliano Benassi, Antonio Rosati and Stefano Ferrario.
Mauri and Zamperini have also been cited for violating two articles of the Code of Sports Justice. That is concerned with the principles of loyalty, fairness and integrity, and prohibition of betting.
If the charges are proved, the players face bans while the clubs could be deducted points.

More suspense on Thiago's future
Speculations surrounding the transfer of high-profile Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara got further when Spanish radio network COPE claimed that the player has agreed deal with Champions League winners Bayern Munich.

Lusaka Stadium Named After Fallen Heroes
President Michael Sata has named the new Lusaka stadium which is under construction and almost complete, as Gabon Disaster Heroes National Stadium.
This was disclosed by sports minister Chishimba Kambwili who was excited about the name saying the decision was arrived at in a cabinet meeting held on Monday and was chaired by a sick and fatigued looking President Sata at State House.
The 50,000 capacity stadium under construction in Lusaka will now be called Gabon Disaster Heroes National Stadium after the Zambia national soccer team that perished in the 1993 Gabon air crash.
"Cabinet has finally approved the name of Lusaka stadium, which will be called Gabon Disaster Heroes National Stadium. This is in honour of our national football team that perished in 1993 while on national duty," Kambwili said.
He said there is need to honour the players and officials, whose remains are buried near the ultra-modern stadium.
Kambwili thanked Cabinet for the gesture, saying the move will enable the contractor Shanghai Construction to do final touches among them fitting chairs bearing the name of the stadium.
The stadium, which is about 85 percent complete, is expected to be handed over to Government at the end of this year.

Osaze in more problems at the Hawthorns
English Premier League outfit West Brom have ordered Nigeria forward Peter Osaze Odemwingie to train away from the first-team squad and also use a separate changing room.
The former Lille striker was hit with the ban when he reported for pre-season training this week.
He is a target for new boys Crystal Palace.
Penalties see Uruguay into final
Uruguay beat Iraq 7-6 on penalties to see them reach their first FIFA U-20 World Cup final in 16 years after a 1-1 draw following two hours of action in Trabzon.
Ali Adnan's outrageous free-kick opened the scoring, before a late Gonzalo Bueno goal sent the game beyond 90 minutes, and when they could not be separated it came down to Saif Salman's missed penalty that decided the match.
Iraq began brightly as they looked to take their fairytale journey a step further. Their mix of energy, doggedness and impressive interplay troubling the Uruguay defence.
Uruguay went the closest of the opening exchanges though, with La Celeste's top scorer Nicolas Lopez getting in behind the defence thanks to a fine Sebastien Cristoforo pass and firing towards the far corner, only for Mohammed Hameed to save well. He had another chance too, riding a challenge in the area only to see his shot blocked, before Giorgian De Arrascaeta volleyed wide.
A foul by Diego Laxalt gave Iraq a free-kick wide on the right side of the penalty area in a seemingly innocuos position. Adnan stood over it and, with Guillermo De Amores anticipating a cross, the defender curled an audacious effort into the near top corner.
Uruguay were shell-shocked and Iraq pressed on, looking the more likely to double their lead than be pegged back. However, Lopez had another chance after the break, but his attempted lob was wayward following a neat lofted through ball by De Arrascaeta. In the process trying to defend that opening Hameed and Adnan nastily collided but, bandaged and battered, they persevered.
Adnan then went close to another spectacular goal, firing from distance with another free-kick, while De Arrascaeta forced a save from Hameed moments later, proving there was still plenty of life in Uruguay.
Deigo Rolan and Gonzalo Bueno both had chances in quick succession as they looked to force an equaliser and the lifeline they needed. They edged closer when Bueno rattled the bar from De Arrascaeta's corner as Iraq dug their heels as they tried to hold on.

Thauvin-inspired France make history
A Florian Thauvin-inspired France battled their way beyond a valiant Ghana side to reach the FIFA U-20 World Cup final for the first time in their history.
Goals in either half from the hard-working midfielder saw Pierre Mankowski's side beyond the Black Satellites, after Ebenezer Assifuah had drawn the African side level just after half-time, despite the Colombia 2011 semi-finalists finishing with ten men after Samuel Umtiti was dismissed.
The game began at a frantic pace, and it was stunning to see the scoreboard still goalless with 15 minutes played. Frank Acheampong had sight of goal for Ghana, while each of Thauvin, Paul Pogba, Jean Cristophe Bahebeck, Lucas Digne and Yaya Sanogo went close for France.
Bahebeck clipped the outside of the Ghanaian post, but the best chances fell to the latter Les Bleuets pair. First they combined with a neat one-two to release Digne, whose shot from inside the area was saved by Eric Antwi - which squirmed free and was collected on the second attempt.
They were at it again when Digne fed Sanogo at the near post, and while the striker's first shot was blocked, he got his second effort on goal. It was too close to Antwi however, when the Arsenal man should have done better.

Coach Mansur tips Bidemi for greater things in her career
Nigeria U17 assistant coach Mansur Abdullahi has paid tribute to Rivers Angels number one goalie Bidemi Aluko for distinguishing herself in the current Nigeria Women Football League season.
The Fed Cup Queens are on top of the Pool B with 36 points, with the young custodian having stood out so far with her sharp reflex saves and agility.
Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone from Abuja on Tuesday, the former Bayelsa Queens gaffer, who managed the lad earlier in her career insisted Bidemi deserves praise for her impressive performance in the game.
"Bidemi is a good footballer, an excellent player at league level. She is a gifted player and Nigerians should watch out for her. She has something to offer and with time she will be one of the players on the lips of many Nigerians," the current Financial Secretary General of the Coaches Association said.
"I signed Bidemi when I was at Olga Queens. I know that girl is a good player. I won't be surprised if she makes the grade in the national side.

Madrid ahead of Gunners in the hunt for Suarez
Real Madrid are ready to steal a march on Arsenal in their bid to take Luis Suarez to the Emirates Stadium.
Madrid President Florentino Perez is set to offer Liverpool around €46m for the Uruguayan international, a matter of days after the Anfield club turned down a €35m offer from Arsenal.
The wantaway striker revealed on Tuesday that he had ‘two or three options’ with regards next season, although he dismissed rumours he is about to join Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.
“There are no other offers yet but Liverpool know exactly what is going on and what I want,” Suarez is quoted as saying.
His agent Pere Guardiola, brother of former Barcelona boss Pep, met Reds’ manager Brendan Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre on Monday, where he is understood to have insisted his client wants to join a club playing Champions League football next term.
In the meantime, the Spanish giants have emerged as hot favourites to capture his signature, with Suarez believed to have already admitted he would find it hard to turn down a lucrative move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

USA star back to the EPL
United States striker Jozy Altidore is returning to the English Premier League after completing his transfer to Sunderland from AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old Altidore agreed to a four-year deal to leave the Dutch league for Sunderland in northeast England.
Altidore spent the 2009-10 season at Hull City while on loan from Spanish club Villarreal. He has also played for the New York Red Bulls, Spanish team Xerez and Turkish club Bursaspor.
The New Jersey native has scored 17 times in 60 appearances for the U.S. national team.
He is set to join up with his new Sunderland teammates at their training camp in Italy.

Bayern Munich confident of Robert Lewandowski deal next year
Bayern Munich are confident of signing Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski by next year at the latest.
Speaking from Bayern's training camp in northern Italy, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says in comments credited to him: "I am quite optimistic that the player will move to Bayern Munich next summer."
The Poland striker has one year remaining on his Dortmund contract but has made no secret of his desire to join Bayern.
His agents have been quite vocal in attempting to force the move through despite Dortmund ruling out a move this off-season.
Lewandowski will be able to move for free once his contract expires next year.

Speaking from Bayern's training camp in northern Italy, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says in comments credited to him: "I am quite optimistic that the player will move to Bayern Munich next summer."
The Poland striker has one year remaining on his Dortmund contract but has made no secret of his desire to join Bayern.
His agents have been quite vocal in attempting to force the move through despite Dortmund ruling out a move this off-season.
Lewandowski will be able to move for free once his contract expires next year.

Premier League side Chelsea have signed Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer on a free transfer until the end of next year's World Cup in Brazil.

Inter Milan has confirmed the signing of striker Mauro Icardi in a co-ownership deal with Sampdoria.
Icardi has been in pre-season training with Inter before the deal was finalized Tuesday.
